Don’t you just love high school movies? Full of pranks, cliques, cat fights and usually ended with the prom itself. What’s your favourite high school movies? Here’s mine and of course in no particular order.
1. Mean Girls
Girls can be so bitchy and cruel, I guess that’s what Mean Girls is all about. I kinda like Lindsay Lohan in this movie and it’s kinda sad how she turns out now. Rachel McAdams plays the bitchy, popular girl and she nails it so perfectly, I just can’t believe that she can play the role of a lovestruck goody-goody two shoes in The Notebook. Oh yes, of course there’s prom at the end of the movie.
2. Grease
I hate High School Musical but Grease is absolutely my favourite high school musical type of movie. Watch the young John Travolta struts his stuff as he plays Danny a bad boy who fall in love with good girl, Sandy.
3. 10 Things I Hate About You
10 things I hate about you is actually a loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of The Shrew. It was the film where Heath Ledger makes his debut. There are two favourite scenes of mine in this movie. The first one was when Ledger sang the song “Can’t take my eyes off you” at the school football field and the second one was when Julia Stiles recite the poem 10 Things I hate about You. Absolutely memorable and they have absolutely good soundtrack too!
4. Clueless
The first movie which debuts Alicia Silverstone to the whole world and one of the rare high school movies where the popular and prettiest girl in school is actually nice too! Catch the late Brittany Murphy spotting an unfamiliar chubby look and honestly, everytime Astro plays rerun of this movie, I make sure I watch it!
5. Dead Poets Society
I once had the opportunity to interview Harith Iskander and he did say that Dead Poets Society is one of his favourite movie. I can watch this movie and will cry over and over again. It was one of those rare inspirational high school movies where I learn to ‘carpe diem’ or seize the day and make sure you watch this movie with a box of tissues.
