How To Age Like a Frenchwoman

Posted by intan On July - 15 - 20101 COMMENT

Wanna know the secret to age gracefully and beautifully like those Frenchwomen that you saw waltzing down around Paris? New York Times has came up with this solution for all the non-Parisienne out there:

1. Go by this mantra : ‘Never neglect yourself, not even in the tiniest details’. According to Dr. Michel Soussaline, a Paris plastic surgeon, “Frenchwomen are more elegant, more aware of their femininity. They simply take care of themselves better.” I also found it interesting that French actress Leslie Caron once said that her mother’s favorite saying: “Women’s skin is too fair to go bare.”

2. Not gaining weight ever. Frenchwomen keep her body in check and will do whatever possible to cut all excess. Another secret? Keep your food portions small.

3. Forget about exercising, it seems to Frenchwomen the only acceptable way to burn calories is to walk. Other options include pill, lotion, machine or treatment to do the trick.

4. Got wrinkles, cellulites or saggy bottoms? Go for facials, massages or spa. Frenchwomen also heart their dermatologists. As one Frenchwoman puts it, why take a chance with over-the-counter skin remedies, when doctors can provide treatments that really work. Besides, the visits are largely covered by the French medical system.

5. Natural look is definitely in. Less is best and heavy foundation is a big no-no. A little blush, mascara and lip color are all most Frenchwomen use. They spend a lot on skin care and beauty products, but not always on the most expensive brands.

French actress, Juliette Binoche – nearly 50 but naturally gorgeous!

6. No soap: They use lotions and hydrating creams for the face (and body), often applied with a cosmetics sponge that provides enough abrasiveness to remove dead cells but not hurt delicate skin.

7. The surgeon is in: If Frenchwomen opt for cosmetic surgery, the objective is to look like themselves – not someone 20 years younger.

Frenchwomen definitely don’t do the above type of lip plumping to the extreme!

8. For Frenchwomen, aging seems to be a matter of mind over makeup. If women feel good about themselves, right down to their expensive wardrobe or panties, they look good, too. To quote Françoise Sagan, “There is a certain age when a woman must be beautiful to be loved, and then there comes a time when she must be loved to be beautiful.”

How to celebrate Earth Hour

Posted by intan On March - 25 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

This Saturday, 27 March 2010  is the day where we celebrate Earth Hour again!  Last year, millions of people around the world pledged support to Earth Hour by turning off lights for one hour. Expect buildings around the world to go dark for one hour in conjunction of Earth Hour.  Even the current world’s tallest building, the famous Burj Khalifa in Dubai will go dark from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time) to observe Earth Hour.

Here are some ways you can do to celebrate Earth Hour:

1. Turn of your lights for one hour between 8.30pm to 9.30pm om Saturday, 27 March 2010. There’s always candles to light up the atmosphere. After all, it’s just only for one hour.

2. Earth Hour is all about taking care of the earth. So why don’t you start planting a tree? And then see if the tree will live long enough until next year’s Earth Hour.

3. Show your support for Earth Hour by adding Earth hour widgets, logo, banners, Twibbons, wallpapers and posters. Paste it in your blog and ask others to follow suit! Go check out Earth Hour official site for all the tools and downloads.

4. Earth Hour is also the best time to start recycling. You don’t have to wait until 8.30pm Saturday night to do so. After all it will be too dark by then. Instead start your Saturday morning by looking around the house and see if you can recycle anything. Newspapers and aluminium tins are the easiest to find.

5. Do activity that doesn’t involve any electricity. You can tell stories to your kids what Earth Hour is all about, go stargazing, walk around your neighbourhood, or even if you are too lazy to do anything, you can just go to sleep.

Happy Earth Hour to all earthlings!

How to get over your divorce, Kimora Lee style

Posted by intan On March - 7 - 20101 COMMENT

I’m sure most of you have watched Kimora in her hit show Life in The Fab Lane. If you’re ardent follower of the show, you know that she has two daughters, Ming,10 and Aoki, 7. She also has a son, Kenzo from her current marriage to Djimon Hounsou. Her two daughters are actually from her previous marriage to music mogul Russell Simmons.

So how did she actually get over her nearly 10 year marriage to Russell? OK magazine has the answer and here I am sharing this with you:

1. Put family first

According to Kimora in her interview with OK, ” I know what I want; I was a package deal with my kids, and I think I made it very clear about what I was looking for. I put my family first, and that’s why for a long time, you didn’t see me dating or hear about me dating or hear about me out”

2. Busy yourself with work

It doesn’t matter what kind of work is it, whether it’s office work or house work, you need to busy yourself so you don’t sit down and cry your heart out. The more idle you are, the more depress you will be. As for Kimora, of course she has her fashion empire, Baby Phat to busy herself with.

3. Avoid dating immediately after your divorce

They said you’re on rebound and I think you certainly are. So meeting new man right after your divorce is probably not a good idea. Lay off  the dating scene for a while. Re-plan your life, rearrange everything, know your priority, be at ease with yourself and think a lot. You certainly don’t want to repeat the same mistake right?

4. Your # 1 priority is you

You just got over your divorce and you feel like you’ve been hit by a truck. So what you should do? Take care of yourself.  As Kimora best puts it “I try to tell people to live their best life, and do what you know you need to do for yourself and your family. You need to be supported. It’s not always about the money and the fame, and a lot of people think that it is sometimes.”

How to eat a lot without gaining weight

Posted by intan On February - 24 - 20104 COMMENTS

Did you watch the Biggest Loser Asia and got ’scared’ of weight of the contestants?

Do you want to maintain your current weight without sacrificing your food? If you think I’m kidding or it’s just too good to be true, then you should read this. If you practiced the below methods, you will not only maintain your current weight, you might lose some weight too!

1. Move! Move! Move!

Yes, to maintain your current weight, you have to exercise. Don’t think of exercise as a big burden that you really hate and dread. Instead start with simple steps that are easy to follow. For example, take the stairs instead of lift or take a walk around your area , say around 15 minutes per day.

2. Eat slowly and calmly

Put your fork or spoon down between every bite. I read somewhere that your brain lags your stomach by about 20 minutes when it comes to satiety (fullness) signals. If you eat slowly enough, your brain will catch up to tell you that you are no longer in need of food.

3. Spread your meals

Instead of eating lots of food in one go, why don’t you eat more small chunks of meals rather than 3 big meals. Going without food for too long can cause a real drop in blood sugar. Then when we eat a big meal all at once, especially one with simple sugars (soda, fruit or juice, etc.) our insulin levels spike which may cause us to store more calories as fat, depending on how well-stocked our energy stores are.

4. Passionately kiss your partner 10 times a day

I thought this one is really funny. But did you know a passionate kiss burns 6.4 calories per minute. Ten minutes a day of kissing equates to about 23,000 calories — or eight pounds — a year! So get kissy kissy now!

5. Eat more vegetables and fruits

To eat a lot does not mean eating lots of junkfood. Instead, start piling yourself up with vegetables and fruits. Also, eat lots of celery. It has only 8 calories, but amazingly, it takes more than 8 calories to digest it. So, you actually burn calories by eating celery! No wonder lah the Wonder Pets gang all love celery so much!
